Be on the look out for a Pinarello Time-trial bike belonging to Penny Carruthers which was stolen from her unit at Alderley on 13 November.  The bike is the same style as the one in the photo but in adifferent colour scheme.  Penny can be contacted on penelopecarruthers@hotmail.com.

Congratulations to squad coach, Melanie Houghton who was named the overall female champion at the Oxygen sports model of the year competiton held in Perth during the week. Mel wins herself over $7000 in prizes, a professional portfolio shoot as well as appearing on the cover of the Feb-March issue of Oxygen magazine.

Joining Gabby Trickey on the injured list is Tom Mewing.  Aussie Tom had an unfortunate accident (read: going over handle bars) whilst riding by himself on Monday morning.  He has a broken collarbone and is out for 6 to 8 weeks.  This is not good timing as Tom was primed to UNLEASH at Calypso Bay in a couple of weeks time.  Heres to a quick recovery for them both.  PS - Gabby is already up to 1 hour sessions on the bike trainer!  Well done Gab.

The third and final race of the Fidler Sports Crit Series will take place this Sunday, 10 August, at Nundah Cycle Track, Hedley Avenue Nundah.  C Grade will kick off at 10.00am, please be there by 9.30am for registration.  Come out and support Spike Triathlon and test your ability in one of three grades.  Entry form is available via the link below. With the sudden closure of Yeronga Pool, Tuesday night squad will be moving to Langlands Park Heated Pool, 9 Panitya St, Stones Cnr. This will commence next Tuesday (22nd) from 6:00pm.  There will be no Thursday night swimming for the time being. We will still continue to swim at Centenary Pool every Monday and Wednesday night.
Remember there’s no training on Friday, 25 April 2008 (Anzac Day).

Congratulations to ALL squad finishers at this years Australian Ironman Championships in Port Macquarie.  There were many PBs on the day as well as great results from first timers.  Special mention to GT (Grant Titman), Leo Sayer (James Hinchcliffe) and Charlesy (Andrew Charles) who accepted their spots for the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii.  GTs 9.33 debut Ironman was a standout.  Click on the link below to view the results of squad members.

There will be a 3.8km swim held at Yeronga Pool on Tuesday 11 March from 6pm.  This is open to all Ironman and even non-Ironman athletes.  Wetsuits will be optional.

Dont forget that Aimee from Qld Sports Medicine Centre will be attending Centenary Pool at 12pm next Monday 18 February for free athlete screening and advice.  This will be a regular monthly occurrence supplied by the squads newest sponsor.  Please contact Troy if you need any further information.

There will be no training on the Australia Day Public Holiday on Monday 28th January. Training will return to normal on Tuesday 29th. Thankyou to Katie and Spud who have been coaching the squad whilst Troy has been away.

For anyone not sure about sizing for the new uniforms, we have samples of the tri-suit, ultra triathlon top, running singlets and running shorts in both male and female.  Troy will have these at the sessions for the next few days for people to try on.

Congratulations to everyone who competed at the Noosa festival over the weekend.  Special mention to Sharon Greenhill and Ned Draydon who both won their categories and Grant Titman (2nd) and James Hinchcliffe (3rd).  Full Noosa results can be viewed by clicking the link below.  Christian Sandstrom won the money in the Calcutta by backing Elissa Raptis and Marto was the runner up for backing James.  We also managed to raise $335 for Spike - thanks everyone.

Due to the Noosa Triathlon this weekend there will be no squad on Friday 2nd or Monday 5th November. All athletes traveling to Noosa are invited to join us on Saturday at 6:00 am for a group ride over part of the course – please wear your Fidler Sports or Spike cycling apparel. There will also be a group swim held that day at 10.00 am from race start. The Spike Calcutta Auction will take place under the tent on Saturday at 3:00pm (note change of time). Email me your expected finishing time and make sure you come along to bid for your favored athlete - there is no additional charge to be a part of this. Post race celebrations will take place on Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00pm on the roof top of Emerald Noosa (42 Hastings St)…..… you’re invited.
